Acmoneia was among the more active provincial minting cities of Phrygia under the Julio-Claudians, and this issue belongs to a well-documented local magistracy: the coins naming Servenius Capito and Julia Severa are a remarkable pair, as Julia Severa was a prominent local benefactress known from inscriptions to have been the leader — or at minimum a major patron — of the Jewish community in Acmoneia, while simultaneously holding the office of high priestess of the imperial cult. The combination is historically unusual and has generated considerable scholarly discussion.
