Docimeum, in the Phrygian interior, owed much of its regional prominence to the quarries nearby — the celebrated *marmor Phrygium*, a purple-veined white marble prized across the Roman world for luxury construction. The town struck civic bronze under Nero early in his reign, before the Senate's patience with him had begun to fray. Issues this small in module from minor Anatolian mints rarely survived in any quantity; most circulated into oblivion within the conventus.
