Miletus struck coins under Hadrian during a period of genuine imperial favor — the city had been substantially rebuilt following the devastation of earlier centuries, and Hadrian visited Ionia during his eastern tours of 124 and 129 AD. The magistrate name Rheginos in the inscription places this issue within a locally administered civic series, the kind of small bronze that handled everyday transactions at the market and harbor rather than travelling far from the city.
