Laodicea ad Lycum sat on the fault line that destroyed it in 60 AD — an earthquake so catastrophic it leveled the city, yet the Laodiceans famously refused imperial aid and rebuilt entirely from their own wealth. By Domitian's reign the city was financially recovered and asserting its civic pride through local bronze issues like this one, magistrate-named and minted for purely local circulation. The archon name in the obverse legend, Διοσκουρίδου, anchors this piece to a specific administrative moment that no literary source bothered to record.
