Obverse description Laureate head of the emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style. The laureate wreath is visible atop the head, with facial features characteristic of Claudian portraiture. The circular legend ΚΛΑΥΔΙΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor. The die is set on an irregular, somewhat broad flan typical of Phocaean civic bronze coinage of the mid-first century AD.
