| Obverse description | Bare head of Paullus Fabius Maximus, the Roman proconsul of Asia, facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition typical of Phrygian civic coinage. The effigy is depicted with naturalistic facial features and close-cropped hair, set within a plain, unadorned field. The Greek legend ΦΑΒΙΟΣ ΜΑΞΙΜΟΣ appears in the field, identifying the magistrate. The flan is irregular and the strike slightly uneven, consistent with provincial hammered bronze production of the Augustan period. |
