| Reverse description | A pomegranate, the civic emblem of Rhosus, depicted attached to an aphlaston — the ornamental stern-piece of an ancient warship — symbolising the city's maritime character and local identity. The composition is rendered in relief with the curling volutes of the aphlaston clearly articulated around the lower portion of the design. The ethnic legend ΡΩϹΕΩΝ, identifying the issuing city, appears in the field to the left of the device. The combination of the pomegranate and aphlaston constitutes the distinctive and recurring type of Rhosian civic coinage. |
