Laodicea ad Lycum sat at the junction of the Lycus and Maeander valleys, making it one of the wealthiest cities in Phrygia — wealthy enough to famously refuse imperial disaster relief after the earthquake of 60 AD, rebuilding entirely at its own expense. Under Tiberius, the city produced a range of small bronze issues through the Conventus of Cibyra, the administrative circuit that grouped several Phrygian and Lycian communities under a single Roman judicial framework established during the late Republican reorganization of Asia.
