Beschrijving keerzijde Tyche, the tutelary deity of Nicaea, depicted standing facing with head turned to the left, wearing a long chiton and polos or mural crown. She holds a rudder in her right hand, symbolising the city's fortune and direction, and a cornucopia in her left arm, representing abundance. The ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ is disposed around the field, asserting the civic identity of the issuing mint. The composition follows the standard Bithynian provincial reverse type for Tyche as city goddess.

Aanvullende informatie

Nicaea was among the most prolific civic minting authorities in Bithynia during the Severan period, competing openly with neighboring Nicomedia for prestige and imperial favor. The rivalry between the two cities was administrative as much as commercial — Nicomedia held the provincial capital status, which Nicaea persistently contested.

At 1.79g, this falls toward the lighter end of the city's Severan bronze output, consistent with known weight variation across the municipal series rather than any single die event.
