Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style characteristic of early Imperial provincial coinage. A lituus (augural staff) is depicted in the field before the portrait, referencing Augustus's religious authority as augur. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ appears in the field, the Greek equivalent of the Latin title Augustus. The flan is compact and somewhat irregular, consistent with local provincial mint production of the Augustan period.
