Year 17 of Trajan's reign in Egypt corresponds to 113–114 AD, placing this issue in the window between his Dacian victories and the launch of his Parthian campaign. Alexandrian bronze at this denomination circulated at the absolute base of the monetary system — handled constantly, traded for single loaves or small measures of grain in a city of nearly half a million people. Survival in any condition above corroded slug is the exception.
