Obverse description Laureate head of Caracalla facing right, the portrait rendered in the typical provincial style of the Mesopotamian mint. The emperor's features are depicted with a short beard and curled hair beneath the laurel wreath. A partial Greek legend surrounds the bust in the field, reading Μ ΑΥΡ ΩΝ, an abbreviated form of the imperial titulature Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. The flan is small and irregular, consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Severan period.
