Glauko(n) held the office of archiereus grammateus — chief sacred secretary — at Ephesus during the late Hellenistic period, and his name on this issue reflects the civic magistrate coinage practice common to Ionian cities under the Roman Republic's reorganization of the Aegean conventus system. The grammateus role carried genuine religious and administrative weight at Ephesus, particularly in connection with the Artemision, one of the wealthiest temple complexes in the ancient world.
