The turreted crown identifies the deity as the personification and protectress of the city of Tyre. The portrait occupies the full field of the flan with no visible legend on the obverse. |

| Reverse description | Astarte, the principal deity of Tyre, depicted standing left atop the prow of a galley, her arms slightly extended in a stance of dominion over the sea. The design is flanked on either side by a Phoenician regnal or civic year designation and a municipal monogram, together forming the standard reverse type of Tyrian civic bronzes issued during the Roman provincial period. The inscription identifies the mint city and the local Tyrian calendar year. |
