Regnal year 35 of Augustus corresponds to 4/5 AD, placing this obol among the final issues of his Egyptian coinage before his death in 14 AD. Egypt was administered as an imperial province under a prefect rather than a senator — a deliberate Augustan policy to keep its grain supply, which fed roughly a third of Rome, out of senatorial hands entirely.
