The Yaudheyas were a kshatriya republican confederation operating in the Punjab and Haryana region who managed to resist Kushana absorption far longer than most neighboring polities — their coins are among the clearest material evidence that the confederation maintained genuine political autonomy well into the second century. The single-headed Karttikeya type is the earlier of the two principal Karttikeya varieties issued by this tribe, preceding the more common multi-headed versions, and likely reflects an early phase of the cult's adoption as a dynastic or tribal emblem before the iconography elaborated.
