The Magha dynasty ruled the middle Gangetic plain from roughly the 1st through 4th centuries CE, with Kausambi — ancient Vatsa capital on the Yamuna — serving as a key administrative center during their tenure. Bhima Varman's precise position within the Magha succession remains debated; the dynasty's rulers are known almost entirely through coin evidence, with virtually no corroborating epigraphic record for individual reigns.
That near-total reliance on numismatic material makes each attributed piece carry unusual historical weight for scholars reconstructing the sequence.
