| Obverse description | Standing effigy of Karttikeya, the Hindu god of war, depicted facing, holding a long spear upright in his right hand; a peacock, his sacred mount and attribute, is shown at his feet in the lower field. The central device is encircled by a Brahmi legend reading 'Yaudheya-ganasya jaya', denoting the victory of the Yaudheya confederacy. The engraving is characteristic of the robust, if somewhat schematic, die-cutting style of northwestern Indian tribal coinage of the late Kushan period. |
