| Obverse description | Concave (scyphate) field bearing a frontal bust of the Theotokos in orans posture, nimbed, holding the Christ Child before her breast and dressed in tunic and maphorion. A single star appears in each lateral field, flanking the central devotional image. The style is characteristic of the late Byzantine provincial coinage of Thessalonica, with broad, somewhat flat relief typical of copper trachea of this period. |
