Obverse description Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Leo I facing right, rendered in low relief typical of late Roman nummi. The effigy displays the emperor in military dress, with the pearl diadem denoting imperial dignity. The surrounding legend reads D N LEO PE AVG in Latin characters. The flan is small and irregular, consistent with the reduced bronze coinage of the mid-fifth century Eastern Empire. Wear and patination partially obscure the fine details of the portrait.
