| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from behind, with the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and the muscled cuirass clearly delineated. The portrait displays the youthful features characteristic of Gordian III, with finely engraved laurel wreath and softly modelled facial features typical of Severan-era provincial die-cutting. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The flan is broad and heavy, consistent with the medallion format issued by the civic mint of Hadrianeia. The overall style reflects the high-quality engraving tradition of the Mysian provincial coinage under the Conventus of Adramyteum. |
