| Beschrijving voorzijde | Draped and helmeted bust of Athena facing left, wearing a crested Attic helmet; a spear and shield are visible over the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Achaean civic bronzes of the mid-third century AD. The flan is irregular, and the surfaces show the heavy patination typical of struck bronze coinage from this period. No visible legend on the obverse. |

Gallienus ruled the eastern provinces under constant pressure — the Herulian sack of Athens in 267 AD effectively ended civic bronze coinage in the city for generations. A coin struck in Athens during his sole reign may predate that catastrophe by only months.
