The Yaudheyas were a kshatriya tribal confederacy occupying the Punjab and Haryana regions, known primarily from Panini's references and later Gupta-era prasastis that describe them as refusing subjugation. Their copper coinage was a collective civic issue — struck in the name of the gana rather than any individual ruler — which is precisely what makes it unusual among contemporaneous Indian issues, most of which advertise dynastic authority.
Copper drachms of this confederacy are among the earliest securely attributed issues of a non-monarchical Indian polity.
