Chersonesos — the Greek colony on the southwestern tip of Crimea — maintained a striking autonomy throughout the Roman imperial period, issuing its own civic bronze long after most Black Sea cities had subordinated their coinage to imperial authority. These pieces were produced under Commodus not as imperially sanctioned issues but as local civic bronze, with the emperor's reign providing a chronological anchor rather than a political mandate.
