Carthage received its colonial charter as Colonia Iulia Concordia Carthago under Augustus, refounded on the site of the city Scipio Aemilianus had razed in 146 BC — a deliberate act of Augustan ideological recycling. The duoviri quinquennales named on this issue were the colony's senior magistrates, elected every five years to conduct the census and oversee civic administration in direct imitation of Roman consular function.

RPC I 753 is among the later emissions of Carthaginian colonial bronze under Augustus, struck when the colony was firmly established rather than freshly planted. The MAA 105 cross-reference places it securely within Müller's African series.
