Obverse description Bare or laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in low relief in the local provincial style. A Latin circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading C I C D D P P, abbreviated for Colonia Iulia Carthago decreto decurionum pecunia publica. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show typical patination consistent with bronze provincial coinage of Africa Proconsularis. The portrait, though worn, retains the characteristic idealized features associated with Augustan imagery.
