Amyntas was a Galatian dynast who rose through the ranks of shifting Roman alliances — serving Antony, then pivoting decisively to Octavian before Actium in 31 BC, a calculation that paid off handsomely. Augustus confirmed him as king over an expanded territory that at its peak included Galatia, Pisidia, and parts of Cilicia and Lycaonia. His reign ended abruptly in 25 BC when he was killed by the widow of a local chieftain he had slain, after which Augustus converted the territory directly into the Roman province of Galatia.
