Obverse description Veiled and draped bust of Tyche to right, surmounted by a turreted mural crown, rendered in the Hellenistic tradition characteristic of civic bronze coinage. The veil falls softly over the shoulders, emphasizing the goddess's protective and civic attributes. The legend MECCHNI-ΩN arcs around the field, identifying the issuing city of Messene. The die work, though worn, reflects the competent engraving style of the Peloponnesian municipal mint during the early Imperial period.
