The upper two compartments bear the Greek letters nu (Ν) and omicron (Ο) in incuse, representing an abbreviated form of the ethnic ΑΙΓΙΝΑΙων (Aeginetans). The lower two compartments are further subdivided diagonally, creating a characteristic skewed mill-sail pattern typical of Aeginetan coinage. The incuse technique reflects archaic die-cutting traditions retained on Aeginetan bronzes into the mid-fourth century BC. |
