Kios was destroyed by Philip V of Macedon in 202 BC and refounded almost immediately as Prusias-on-Sea, yet the city's coinage long retained its original civic identity — a stubborn numismatic assertion of continuity under a new name. Issues attributed to this late period fall within the broader reorganization of Bithynian civic coinage following Rome's absorption of the kingdom in 74 BC, when Nicomedes IV died without an heir and bequeathed his realm by will.
The HGC 7 attribution places this type among the latest autonomous bronzes struck before the region's full integration into the province of Pontus et Bithynia.
