| Descrizione del dritto | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caesar Gaius Julius Verus Maximus (Maximus) facing right, depicted from behind the right shoulder in the three-quarter rear view characteristic of his portraiture. The effigy displays paludamentum over the cuirass, with the laurel wreath clearly indicated in the legend. The surface carries heavy patination consistent with a provincial bronze issue, with the portrait rendered in the bold relief typical of Ionian civic coinage of the Severan period. In her left arm she cradles a cornucopia, the emblem of prosperity, while her right hand presents a small statuette of Ares, the war god, depicted holding a spear and resting upon a shield. The composition follows the established iconographic programme of Ionian civic bronzes, with the deity rendered in the round in a hieratic stance. The encircling Greek legend names the issuing authority in the genitive plural. The reverse field shows the characteristic granular surfaces and green patination of a provincially struck Æ 30. |
