Agrippa II ruled as a client king under Rome while simultaneously holding the title of overseer of the Jerusalem Temple — an arrangement that placed him in an impossible position when the Great Jewish Revolt broke out in 66 AD. He sided openly with Rome, fled Jerusalem, and spent the war years attached to Vespasian's and then Titus's campaigns. These coins, dated to his regnal years 26–27 (corresponding to 73–74 CE), were struck after the Temple had already been destroyed and Jerusalem razed — Agrippa still minting, still ruling, over a population that had largely ceased to exist.
