Gulab Singh's accession to the Rewa gaddi in 1918 followed the death of Venkat Raman Singh, and medallic rupees were struck to mark the occasion — a practice common among Central Indian princely states that had no standing mint authorization for currency but could commission commemorative strikings. The narrow rim variety cataloged here as X#M2 var. suggests at least two obverse or collar configurations were used in the same production run, a detail consistent with small private mint work of the period where die and collar consistency was rarely enforced.
