| Obverse description | Central field bears the Shi'ite Kalima in three horizontal registers of bold nastaliq script, reading 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' The names of the Twelve Imams are arranged in the surrounding border legend, encircling the central declaration of faith. The script is deeply struck in high relief against a plain field, characteristic of Afsharid hammered silver coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with typical flat spots and flow lines from the hammering process. |
