Reverse description The reverse is entirely occupied by the Shia profession of faith (Kalima) rendered in large, bold nasta'liq script arranged in three horizontal bands across the field. The uppermost band bears 'لا اله الا الله', the central band 'محمّد رسول الله', and the lower band 'علی ولی الله', affirming Ali's status as the friend of God in accordance with the Twelver Shia creed. Floral and foliate ornamental motifs, typical of Afsharid die engraving, fill the spaces between the inscription bands. The rim is irregular due to the hammered flan, and faint traces of a border are discernible around the periphery.
