Obverse description Central field occupied by the Shi'ite Kalima (profession of faith) rendered in bold nastaliq calligraphy across multiple lines, reading 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah, Ali wali Allah' (There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God, Ali is the friend of God). The inscription is arranged in a characteristic stepped or paneled layout typical of Safavid-derived coinage. The legends fill the flan with flowing nastaliq script, with decorative punctuation dots ornamenting the field. The entire design is executed in the hammered style with characteristic irregular flan edges and slight weakness at the periphery.
