备注

Klemens Brosch was an Expressionist painter and graphic artist based in Urfahr — directly across the Danube from Linz — who died of tuberculosis in 1926 at thirty-four, leaving behind a body of work now held in serious esteem in Upper Austria. His involvement in the Notgeld program was brief but prolific, and the St. Johann am Walde pieces are among the more sought-after of his emergency currency designs, entirely because of his authorship rather than the issuing municipality's significance.

St. Johann am Walde is a tiny rural commune in the Inn Quarter. That a village of this size commissioned Brosch directly — rather than using a generic printer's stock design — was unusual and accounts for why these notes attract collector interest disproportionate to their face value.
