Obverse description The obverse displays the Brazilian royal countermark applied over the host coin, which is a Río de la Plata 8 Reales. At center, the Portuguese royal arms — a crowned globe-like shield featuring the quintas (five escutcheons) of Portugal — is visible within a beaded inner circle, encircled by a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a bow and surmounted by crossed swords or arrows. Flanking the central device are the denomination indicators '8' to the left and 'R' to the right. The peripheral legend reads UNION Y LIBERTAD with the mint identifier MATO GROSSO and date 1815, along with the assayer and mint marks, confirming this as a Potosí-struck host coin subsequently countermarked for Brazilian circulation.

Reverse description The reverse displays the 'Sol de Mayo' (May Sun) of the Río de la Plata host coin, rendered as a radiant sun with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a central face, occupying the majority of the field. The peripheral legend PROVINCIAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA encircles the design, reading around the coin's circumference. The surface shows typical adjustment and countermarking characteristics consistent with Brazilian remonetization practice under João, Prince Regent.
