The 96-kopeck denomination was an attempt to rationalize Russian silver coinage against the German Reichsthaler, with 96 kopecks equaling one silver ruble in a proposed decimal-adjacent system that never gained traction. Elizabeth's treasury minted several pattern types in 1756, each exploring slightly different executions of the concept. This is the second of those types.

The reform it was meant to launch died with the proposal. Full production was never authorized.
