Opmerkingen

The k.k. Staats-Central-Cassa 900 Gulden of 1848 is one of the most unusual denominations in Austrian fiscal history — a figure that corresponds not to any conventional monetary tier but to a specific administrative need, almost certainly tied to the revolutionary upheavals of that year. Vienna in 1848 was a city under pressure: the March uprising, the flight of Metternich, and the eventual imperial retreat to Olmütz created acute short-term financing demands that normal channels could not meet.

At this denomination, the note functioned as a fiscal instrument rather than a circulating currency — handled by treasuries, not tradesmen.
