Bruck im Pinzgau is a small market town in the Salzburg highlands, and this 90 Heller notgeld dates from the acute coin shortage that persisted in Austria well into 1920 — long after the armistice, as the new republican government struggled to stabilize a currency stripped of its imperial backing. Municipal issues in odd denominations like 90 Heller were common precisely because they were designed to fill the gaps left by missing 10- and 20-Heller coins in daily retail transactions.
