90 Heller

Hargelsberg is a small Upper Austrian municipality that, like hundreds of similarly sized communities, resorted to issuing its own emergency paper during the Heller and Krone shortages that plagued Austria in the immediate postwar years. The 90 Heller denomination is an unusual one — most Notgeld series favored round figures or familiar fractions, and the choice of 90 suggests the commune was filling a very specific gap in local circulation rather than issuing speculatively for the collector trade that would later consume the market.

Josef Edlmaier's signature as the authorizing official is the only individual accountability attached to this issue.
