背面描述 The reverse displays a large, centrally positioned eight-pointed Maltese Cross rendered in high relief, its distinctive V-shaped points radiating symmetrically across the field. The cross occupies nearly the full diameter of the coin and is enclosed by a beaded inner border. The Latin motto SVB HOC SIGNO MILITAMVS arcs along the upper periphery between the beaded circle and the rim, while the denomination 9 TARI appears in the lower exergual area. A small mintmaster's mark is visible at the base of the cross, just above the denomination.

附加信息

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta occupies a peculiar constitutional position — it issues coins and passports despite holding no sovereign territory, operating instead under a legal fiction of statehood recognized by roughly 110 countries. This 9 Tarì belongs to a coinage series revived in the 1960s partly as a fundraising mechanism and partly to assert that centuries-old sovereign identity in concrete, tradeable form. The tarì denomination itself dates to Norman Sicily, where it entered circulation as a fractional gold unit before the Order adopted it for their Maltese issues centuries later.
