Obverse description The note is oriented with text printed upside-down relative to conventional reading, a known characteristic of certain obsolete American issues. Roman numeral IX appears at both the left and right upper registers, flanking a central vignette of Hebe attended by an eagle, with allegorical female figures in side panels. Arabic numeral 9 counters appear in the lower left and lower right corners, and the bank name and denomination text are rendered in bold letterpress across the center field.
