| 裏面の説明 | Central depiction of the historic pinnace Deliverance, a three-masted sailing vessel rendered in fine detail with rigging, sails, and hull planking clearly delineated, set against a gridded cartographic background evoking a nautical chart. To the left, a large whale breaches dramatically against the mirror-like field, referencing the maritime heritage of the region. A stylized map showing the Bermuda archipelago is visible in the middle ground, labelled 'BERMUDA' in small lettering. The entire central composition is enclosed within a raised rope border conforming to the Reuleaux triangular shape of the coin. The legend 'BERMUDA' is inscribed in bold raised Latin lettering along the lower edge, with the engraver's initials 'JRW' visible in the lower right of the inner field. |

The Deliverance was one of two pinnaces hastily built in Bermuda by survivors of the 1609 Sea Venture shipwreck — the flagship of a Virginia Company supply fleet that ran aground on the island during a storm. The castaways spent nearly a year constructing both vessels from Bermudian cedar and salvaged wreckage before sailing on to Jamestown in 1610. That shipwreck and its aftermath is widely credited as the primary inspiration for Shakespeare's The Tempest.
The $9 denomination is a direct reference to Bermuda's historical currency system, in which nine pence equaled a shilling under the old hog money reckoning.
