Obverse description Square klipppe flan oriented as a lozenge, with the crowned municipal arms of Kampen — depicting three towers on a fortified wall — displayed centrally in the field. The denomination numerals '9 ½' appear in a recessed rectangular cartouche to the left of the shield, with 'ST' (stuivers) in a corresponding cartouche to the right. The Latin motto EXTREMVM SUBSIDIVМ ('last resort') is inscribed in raised letters along raised border bands on the upper-left and upper-right edges respectively, alluding to the emergency nature of the issue. The city name CAMPEN appears in a rectangular panel below the shield, with the date 1578 in a further cartouche at the lowermost point, all executed in the crude but functional style characteristic of siege coinage.
