The PLA's 90th anniversary falls on August 1, 2017 — the date commemorating the Nanchang Uprising of 1927, which the Communist Party retroactively designated as the founding moment of its armed forces. That event, a hastily organized mutiny against Nationalist command, was suppressed within days, but the date stuck. Issues from this commemorative series were produced in strictly limited quantities and distributed primarily through state banking channels, meaning most examples passed directly into collections without ever changing hands commercially.
