| Reverse description | Central device consisting of the crowned Portuguese royal arms, comprising the escutcheon of Portugal with its characteristic arrangement of five bezants (quinas) arranged in a cross pattern on an azure field, enclosed within a baroque cartouche of elaborate foliate and scrollwork mantling. The royal crown surmounts the shield at the top. The entire composition fills the field to the inner beaded rim, with no additional legend, the denomination being indicated solely on this face by the numeral 800 absent from this side — the denomination appears instead as part of the reverse design type on associated issues. |
