Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style, with elaborately curled long hair falling to the shoulder. The mintmark M and date appear below the portrait, divided by a pellet. The encircling Latin legend reads IOANNES V D G PORT ET ALG REX, identifying the monarch as King of Portugal and the Algarves by the Grace of God. A beaded border frames the entire design.
