Additional information

João V's Goa mint operated under chronic logistical strain throughout the 1730s, dependent on silver shipments that competed with the Estado da India's perpetually underfunded military commitments. The 800 réis denomination was intended to anchor local commerce in a colonial economy where counterfeit and clipped coinage had badly eroded confidence in smaller silver.

The Gomes reference spread across multiple die variants (06.01 through 06.05 at minimum) reflects genuine production inconsistency at the Goa facility — not collector taxonomy for its own sake.
